Ascott opens first Somerset property in Phnom Penh

Cambodia: Ascott has opened the Somerset Norodom, its first Somerset-branded serviced apartments in Phnom Penh.

The property features 169 apartments in a modern 30-storey building close to the Tonle Bassac commune.

Lew Yen Ping, Ascott's country general manager for Vietnam, who also oversees the company's expansion in Cambodia and Myanmar, said Ascott has great confidence in the Cambodian market.

"We decided to put our first Somerset brand in Cambodia to cater for long stay and short stay accommodations here," she said. Somerset Norodom Phnom Penh will provide corporate travelers, executives and families a balanced living experience where they can immerse in the local culture while enjoying all the comforts of home. Guests can be assured they will experience a consistent, quality hospitality reflecting a sense of place, combined with a personal touch."

"Located within a mixed-use development area, Somerset Norodom provides a wide range of options, from cleverly designed studio apartments to truly spacious three-bedroom apartments, suitable for both corporate and leisure purposes. Each serviced apartment is fitted with a fully-equipped modern kitchenette, separate sleeping corner or room and an en-suite bathroom. Somerset guests will also gain full access to the residence's comprehensive facilities such as the on-site gymnasium, swimming pool, sky bar, resident lounge and a sauna," she added.

The new property joins the Casa Meridian Residence in Phnom Penh, which Ascott opened in November last year.

The Cambodian market and much more will be discussed at the inaugural Serviced Apartment Summit Asia which is taking place in Bangkok on February 21 and 22.

"It’s been really good. For a first event, the numbers are good, and we’ve had some very positive feedback from the owners that we’ve invited here. We’ve had some really good conversation with partners and potential owners. The atmosphere has been really good - I think the tours of Bangkok yesterday which allowed people to get to know each other on an informal basis was a great idea. I’m sure the event will grow from here."
